Non-toxic mattress and bedding
Humans spend approximately 33% of their life sleeping.
The place we sleep, where this 33% of our lifetime is spent is in our bed.
Unfortunately, mattresses are kinda evil…they are known to release toxic chemicals called volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These compounds come from carcinogens like benzene, formaldehyde and flame retardants that off gas right onto our bodies and lungs.
Not to mention the bedding industry is just as bad…standard pillows, sheets and blankets are made with synthetic Man-made fabrics like acrylic, polyester, rayon, acetate, and nylon that are treated with thousands of harmful toxic chemicals during production in addition to being made from petroleum and plastic!
That is a lot of exposure to toxic bedding. 8-10 hours of direct contact, everyday, for our entire lives.
I believe upgrading your mattress & bedding is one of the most important changes we can make to our health and wellness.
My husband and I finally made the switch to non-toxic, non-synthetic bedding materials and mattress and let me tell you….it’s heavenly!
It’s also expensive and a switch we slowly made over the past few months. I recommend starting your upgrade with your sheets, blankets and pillows first and mattress last.
Try not to feel overwhelmed with cost as the materials are such high quality they will last you years and you only have to buy once.
Here is what our non-toxic, all natural bedding set up looks like
Organic Bliss Latex Mattress by Plush Beds. This mattress is soooo dang comfy in addition to being made with sustainably harvested real latex, organic cotton and wool all GOTS and GOLS certified. I couldn’t find a better quality mattress and with the level of comfort and amazing sleep we get from this mattress, I give it 10 stars!
I also ordered the organic latex pillows from Plush Beds which are made from the same latex as their mattress and then covered in an organic cotton cover. These pillows are HEAVY and so versatile; they mold into whatever position you're in but can also scrunch together and spread out and fluff…never in my life have I slept on a pillow this good! Another bonus is they are big, so they look aesthetically pleasing on the bed.
Sheets, pillow cases and bedding came from Under the Canopy. I went with the organic sateen sheet set and organic quilted sham and quilt. Great quality, heavy duty and super soft.
And that’s our non-toxic mattress and bedding set-up! Although these items are pricey they are very high quality and a very important step to reducing your toxin exposure.
