We use gluconolactone as one of our preservatives to maintain freshness in our formulations. It is a gentle and natural polyhydroxy acid (PHA) derived from glucose, also making it a very gentle AHA exfoliant, but we don’t use it that way. We  like it as a preservative because it comes from renewable sources and is EcoCert certified as biodegradable, which is important for synthetic ingredients.

Sodium Benzoate and Gluconolactone: Our Safe and Effective Preservative Combination

We also use sodium benzoate as another safe and gentle preservative in combination with gluconolactone to keep our skincare products free from harmful bacteria and mold. Together, they help maintain the quality of our products and extend their potency well beyond the purchase date.

A Sustainable and Biodegradable Process

Gluconolactone is typically made through a fermentation process using glucose from various sources such as corn starch or rice. The bacteria consume the glucose and produce gluconic acid, which is then further processed to produce gluconolactone. The final product is a white powder that is highly pure and stable, used for various applications such as personal care, food, and pharmaceuticals.
